Statement
With the Cuts Grillas series, Javier Vivas makes paintings in which the viewers can see how a perfect structure of superimposed lines appear intervened daringly, even aggressive, by visual cuts, in which he uses optical effects to create a sensation of visual tension and instability.
The difficulties with the social and political situation of his native country, coupled with his incessant admiration and study of the masters of modernity, has created a language in which its most basic elements seem to be given by history.
To face the work of Javier Vivas is to remember that error and chaos exist and that they are part of the historical destiny of nations, reminds us not to take anything for granted, and makes us responsible for our context and situation. In this way, his work creates bases to build, to create from acceptance and reflection.
