Carlos Antonio Rancaño

Bio

Carlos Antonio Rancaño was born in Miami to Cuban/Panamanian parents. After graduating with a degree in Graphic Design, he started his career in advertising, and it was the strict rules of design that gave way to his paintings. The free spirit that lives in his work is a direct response to the more simplistic approach of Graphic Design, giving way to pieces with bright, warm colors and sharp, rigid brush strokes that serve as the NYAAAA to the subjects in his work.

Statement

"I’m amused by ironic things and my paintings reflect that. My work stands as a contradiction both in a literal sense and figuratively. A painting could be saturated with bright colors while it’s subject matter be dark in its tone. I feel that the world can be quite cynical, and thus, the human spirit can be quite cynical. My work is simply a manifestation of that though with no intent other than to reflect that idea."
