Arte Fundamental

Gilberto Salvador

Bio

Artist, architect, urban planner, engraver and teacher Gilberto Salvador delves into plastic and cultural subjects. He exhibits individually, for the first time in 1965 and has since gained notoriety in the Brazilian and Latin American market. His work is characterized by the opposition between gestural and the rigid line, between organic and inorganic forms, between movement and the static. In them, the living forms, men, flowers and animals dialogue with geometric figures.

Statement

I have tried to create irreverence and the desperate relationship between my art pieces. They are not figurative pieces in a way of how I understand the pure Brazilianness without being an euphanist. If separated from my story, they might give another message but all of them together translate into my work and my inspirations throughout my whole life. I am a true artist on the craft of resilience, with the visual aid of art I managed to overcome physical difficulties, the handicap and an array of issue that followed those obstacles.
