Statement
The current artistic production of João Di Souza presents some fantastic tropical landscapes in great proportions canvases, with an invitation to explore and unveil the intricacies between the ludic and erotic. The artist was born and raised immersed in a rich bioma in the Bahia State of Brazil. His works reconstruct that atmosphere where the memory and imagination mix up in a warm and damp scenario. Such fantasy evokes multiple perspectives, who instigates the dazzle for the unknown. Large scale paintings, wider than the eye can focus, are filled with contour, volumes and recesses, suggesting bodies underneath trunks, roots, colors and forms. Di Souza addresses in your practice the time consuming of the observation, just as relevant as contemporaneity. Supported in references of magical realism and deconstruction of form, presents images who demand the surrender of the spectator to the experience of art.
