Statement

Stephen Palmer’s recent paintings and drawings start from a sheet of paper that is firstly defaced then unfolded as if to make the paper good. Earlier paintings feature second-hand copies of albums by iconic male singers, the faces on the covers partially obscured by placing the record’s inner sleeves on top. Another series of drawings painstakingly transcribes newspaper clippings. The selection initially seems random, but what all the topics share is that they attract is an obsessive following.
